Premier Route 33 Tilehurst diversions

Due to safety concerns over the stop inbound to town that was situated by Warborough Avenue, this stop is being moved further down the road to the entrance of Kiln Lane. Please note that this is a byway and as such may suffer from standing water in wetter conditions. Please take care when using this stop to get on and off the bus.

Premier Route 33 will be diverted from its current route from Monday 27 February until early September due to the ongoing sewer developments along Hildens Drive. To cut down on the amount of disruption to our customers, we will only be making one diversion to this route to last for the duration of the works. The changes to this route are outlined below.

Please note, the original planned diversion has changed slightly due to concerns about car parking in the Normanstead Road area. This meant that this area was not a viable option for buses to get through safely. We have therefore, with great reluctance, taken the decision to avoid the diversion via Normanstead Road and Warborough Avenue and use Chapel Hill only to get to Little Heath Road. Whilst we appreciate that this misses a large section of the area, there is no other viable option to allow buses to access this area safely and reliably at this time.

Details of the full diversion can be found below.

Monday to Saturday daytime changes

The Premier Route 33 Monday to Saturday daytime services will follow the normal outbound route until Lower Elmstone Drive and then divert up Chapel Hill instead of following Hildens Drive onto City Road. It will then continue up onto Little Heath Road and down City Road to reach Partridge Drive via Bitterne Avenue. This route is reversed for the journeys back into town.
New temporary stops can be found at:

Chapel Hill (just before Normanstead Road)

Hallplace Farm (near Sulham Hill)

Little Heath Road (near Warborough Avenue)

Little Heath Road (between Little Heath School and City Road)

Evening and Sunday changes

For evening journeys Monday to Saturday and all journeys on Sunday, Premier Route 33 will follow the daytime route up Westwood Road and Pierce’s Hill turning onto Lower Elmstone Drive. It will then use Westwood Glen and Chapel Hill to loop back onto Lower Elmstone Drive and follow the outbound route back into town.

For customers wanting to get to City Road during evening times, please use purple 17 as this will be the closest available service to this area.

Sunday changes – including Premier Route 15 diversion

Premier Route 33 will not go to City Road on Sundays, but instead will follow the evening diversion as laid out above. This is due to the timing of this service being insufficient for a diversion which would have to go along Little Heath Road.
To help customers who want to travel to this area, we will be diverting the Premier Route 15 to cover. The buses concerned will use their normal route but will turn left onto Park Lane rather than right to the Triangle and will then go to City Road as far as the Bitterne Avenue stop. They will then use Barton Road to turn and reverse the route back into town.
This will mean the Premier Route 15 services starting in Central Reading from 9.15am until 5.45pm will not go to the Tilehurst Triangle as they currently do. Journeys before and after these times will use the normal route. Journeys from Tilehurst back into Central Reading between 9.52am and 6.21pm will be the return journeys of the diversion and will begin from the City Road/Bitterne Avenue stop rather than the Triangle.
For customers wanting to get to Tilehurst Triangle during these times, please use either purple 17 or Premier Route 33.

A new Sunday timetable will be available here shortly.

We thank you for your patience and understanding around these unavoidable diversions.
